How to Check Your Remaining Data Balance
Know How Much Data You Have Left
When you are traveling, keeping an eye on your remaining data is important. You do not want to run out mid-navigation or in the middle of an important WhatsApp call. Here is how to check your balance using two different methods.
Method 1: Check the Only eSIM Dashboard (Most Accurate)
Your Only eSIM account dashboard is the best and most reliable way to see how much data you have left. The dashboard shows your remaining balance based on carrier-reported usage. Note that this data is not real-time -- there is typically a delay of 2-3 hours between actual data consumption and what the dashboard displays.
- Open a browser on your phone or laptop
- Go to onlyesim.com and log in to your account
- Navigate to your Orders or My eSIMs page
- Find the active plan you want to check
- Your remaining data and plan validity dates are displayed on the order details page
This is the number you should trust. It reflects usage reported by the network and accounts for your plan's total data allowance. Keep in mind there may be a 2-3 hour delay before your most recent usage appears.
Tip: Bookmark your dashboard on your phone's home screen for quick access while traveling. On iPhone, tap the Share button in Safari and select "Add to Home Screen." On Android in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu and select "Add to Home screen."
Method 2: Check Your Phone's Settings (Approximate)
Your phone also tracks data usage, but with an important caveat: your phone shows total data used since the counter was last reset, not your remaining balance. It does not know how much data your plan includes, so it cannot tell you what is left. Still, it can give you a rough sense of how much data you have consumed.
On iPhone:
- Open Settings
- Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data)
- Scroll down to see Cellular Data Usage broken out by line
- Find your eSIM line and note the data figure shown
Keep in mind that iPhone does not automatically reset this counter each billing period. To get an accurate reading, you can scroll to the bottom and tap Reset Statistics when you first activate your eSIM, then check back later to see how much you have used.
On Android (stock Android / Google Pixel):
- Open Settings
- Tap Network & Internet
- Tap SIMs and select your eSIM
- Tap Data usage to see how much data has been consumed
On Samsung:
- Open Settings
- Tap Connections
- Tap Data usage
- Select your eSIM line to see the usage breakdown
Again, these numbers show consumption, not remaining balance. Subtract from your plan's total to estimate what is left, or just check the dashboard for the exact figure.
What Happens When Your Data Runs Out
When you have used all the data in your Only eSIM plan, your internet connection will simply stop working. Here is what you need to know:
- There are no overage charges. Only eSIM will never automatically bill you for extra data. Your connection stops, and that is it.
- No surprise fees. You will not wake up to an unexpected charge on your credit card.
- Your eSIM profile stays installed. The eSIM does not disappear from your phone — it just will not have an active data connection until you add more data.
- Wi-Fi still works. You can always connect to available Wi-Fi networks regardless of your eSIM data balance.
If You Need More Data
Running low or already out? You have two options:
- Top up your current plan. If your plan supports top-ups and is still within its validity period, you can add more data directly from onlyesim.com. See our top-up guide for step-by-step instructions.
- Buy a new plan. If your current plan has expired or does not support top-ups, you can purchase a fresh plan for your destination. You may need to install a new eSIM profile depending on the plan.
Tips for Making Your Data Last
A few small adjustments go a long way:
- Use Wi-Fi whenever available — hotels, cafes, and airports often offer free Wi-Fi
- Download maps offline — Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline maps. Download your destination before you leave.
- Disable background app refresh — apps refreshing in the background consume data silently
- Stream at lower quality — switch to standard definition. HD and 4K streaming will burn through data fast.
Check your dashboard regularly, and you will always know exactly where you stand.
